KIEFER RETIRES

Nicolas Kiefer has announced that he will be retiring from tennis in this season. The 33-year-old German reached a career-high fourth in the rankings in 2000 but has struggled with form and injury in the last year two years.

He did not reach a Grand Slam final but made the 1997 Wimbledon quarter-finals, the 2006 Australian Open last four and won an Olympic silver medal in 2004.

With a current ranking of 722, Kiefer wants to spend more time with his wife and daughter, who was born in August.
